The Law Firm

I started considering the qualities that compose the best law firms.  In deciding on the best law firms do you include things such as employee gains, firm culture and worker turnover rates?  Or can you focus on the qualities that affect a law company's most valuable commodity - the client?  My take on this is that the very best law firms employ quality attorneys and personnel with the highest of moral standards and the urge to resist in their ethical boundaries for their clientele.

A good leader will have a vision for the firm's direction, a commitment to serving its clients, and also a desire to locate like-minded people who believe not only in the clients, but also the brand of their company process server Sacramento California.  I have found in my practice that successful leaders can easily change with growth and success.  They often lose touch with the most people that helped them develop into a prosperous powerhouse.  It is easy to go from a scenario of weekly partner/associate lunches to rarely, if ever, visiting a partner in the workplace.  Effective leaders in the very best law firm possess a fantastic comprehension of the legal work coming from their office, the overall satisfaction of its clients, and an awareness of the employees' overall job satisfaction.  With growth and success, it is easy to lose touch with these critical elements, but good leaders will remain conscious of these variables, even with exponential growth of the company.

The best law firms have compassion for their customers.  When lawyers at these firms meet with clients, it's never about discussing the lawyer's successes.  Rather, it's listening to your clients concerns, determining their overall goal through representation from the company, and demonstrating empathy towards their circumstance.   They appear at the chance to bill or the total fee they'll make on a contingency for a massive settlement.  These lawyers don't remember one of the most basic ethical consideration of lawyers, acting in the best interest of their client.  Because in the end of the day, all the billable hours in the world won't make a practice successful If you don't satisfy and take good care of your customers.  Firms with this mindset often have high turnover rates because they make billing THE priority.  They burn their attorneys out and bring in new lawyers and start the procedure new together.  This can easily lead to dissatisfaction with customers.  They may not know from 1 month to another which attorney is representing them.
Another vital quality of the ideal law firms will be that a narrow focus on a given area of law.  The times of general practitioners is (or should be) gone.  Laws are complex and can change in an instant based on laws or new case law handed down from appellate courts.  The best law firms have concentrate on a single field of legislation and become quite good at it.  They are aware of recent changes as well as developing changes in their area of practice.  With such a narrow focus, they could change approach within an instant and become the ability to their customers by demonstrating their understanding in a particular area of law.  Beware of this lawyer who promises to practice in every area of civil litigation.  Although it's possible, consider that opposing counsel may have a more narrow focus.  They may have that gold nugget of information that can make the event a winner for them and a failure for the customer.
